Hurricane Gustave

Another big one is moving in to the New Orleans area and Matt may have to go help out. We think we will know on Monday whether they will call his team to drive there with all their cars and gear...

We are hoping for many reasons that this hurricane just decides to head out to sea. But at this point that is unlikely.  It's incredibly scary for those living in the area. I just can't believe it when I hear them say that it could be worse flooding than Katrina and that their not sure about the Levee...oh my god.

... and , selfishly, I would love for this all to just go away because Matt was going to New York to spend his 40th birthday with Craig...the first birthday they have spent together in a long time AND record some music and have a good time...I guess time will tell. The reports seem pretty grim.  Of course Matt says that there would be nothing better than to help people who really need it in the middle of his life...really a good guy (ruggedly handsome, quite brilliant, etc)

Anyway, Matt has already gotten texts from a guy he knows working in NYC who's  also "on call"....SEE YOU ON BOURBON STREET it said. Yikes.

So, lets keep our fingers crossed for everyone involved!!

I can't even believe this Palin business...

...the part that really really gets me, more than her inexperience,  and her ultra social conservatism...what I really can't understand is how Mc Cain could choose a vice president when he only met her once.  That kind of "maverick" gamble is just stupid.  I can't imagine the decisions that would be made on a whim if he were president. This is such an obvious, weird "political" decision...and I just hope that her charm doesn't over shadow the fact that she is being used. I don't know a woman who would fall for this but a few well chosen sound bites later and I can just see her being a media darling. Unfortunately its all about what happens in the last month (again, remember Kerry?!) and even scarier, the last week.
Which reminds me...did anyone see or read the John Kerry speech about comparing Senator Mc Cain to Candidate Mc Cain...talk about flip flopping.

The hypocrisy kills me.

truly inspiring

The most amazing speech ever!
For a person who is suspicious of political speeches...I was just completely in awe.

Usually, the parts in political speeches where they say what they will do, all the promises, turns me off.  I just don't want to hear it because I don't think they are able to deliver always, even if they want to. I prefer to learn about the PLAN by reading...their website, articles etc. This time, even knowing that the odds are stacked against him when it comes to actually getting some of this stuff passed...I believe he will TRY harder than anyone to do what he can.
I know Obama  has been accused by some of not even having a PLAN (especially those who listened to Hillary, thats one of the things she repeated.  Saying it doesn't make it so.) I really don't think anyone has ever won an election by spelling out their plan. In the end its a joke to even pretend you understand the innerworkings of a "plan" from a speech. And those in the past that tried to really explain it were accused of being boring...talking about Kerry!

I think what makes the intentions of a candidate clear is the ability to explain their vision, not specifics. And then inspire people to WORK for the vision, which includes researching the details. As a voter I like to have a picture of the road  taken by the candidate...what got them to this point and where that road will lead. Obama has done this in a way no one has.

The things that turn me off in all political speeches, even Obama's speech, are chanted slogans and catch phrases. That stuff turns my stomach even while knowing it it necessary.
(marketing, ick)
But Obama has a way of letting the world do this while taking the high road himself. It makes it so much more palatable for me. He has somehow taken the "politician" out of the equation, making it about public service and about US.....Brilliant.

What made me really feel inspired last night was the clear way he connected us all, the right and the left as people and Americans (even John Mc Cain) and the way he has never talked down to us or  assumed we'd fall for sappy, syrupy stories (his were quite brief and to the point, telling us the story without the drama). After this speech I felt that I could say "I love America" whereas before it felt like those words had been hijacked by the inflammatory right. I can't tell you how many debates I have been in where I heard, "Well, if you hate America so much why don't you leave...?"
Sort of like after 9/11 when everyone felt like the flag represented us all...then, shortly after it seemed to mean something else, something twisted.

I believe Barak Obama really does want to serve the public...I believe that his ultimate goal is to elevate the country....because "when we all do better, we ALL do better".  (this slogan is one I like!)

ok, I hate the music pop ups...

...I thought it might be fun but it turns out any time I visited the blog I was blasted...oh well.
I still like the idea of more music sharing with friends.  Maybe every now and then I will make a play list to post for a day or two so just in case anyone wants to spend a paycheck at I-Tunes.
The music business might be in trouble but I buy more music than ever...one song at a time.

I would love to know what all of you out there are listening to now. I always need new tunes at the studio.

do you like it when music pops up at you?.....or do you NOT ??

...by now you know why I ask?! I can't decide!
(by the way, if you need turn it down to listen to a video, scroll down to the purple play list and press pause...hassle??)
I guess the best part for me would actually be if everyone I knew who had a blog got one of these here thingys so I could find some cool new music...

oh and one more thing...watching the Democratic National Convention...Silas says, "Demo-CATS" and "Re-PooP-licans", or was it "Re-Pelicans"?? either way, I feel a song coming on...
